If Percy French had ever written about this pub, there’s only one title which would fit:

The Star of the County Down

Roadworks are no gas!

We’re all in favour of progress, and bringing gas supplies to rural communities is an important step forward. But laying gas pipelines means road closures and the recent spate of diversions in and around The Maghera Inn since November has been commercially trying, to say the least.  Phoenix Gas has done its best to signpost alternative routes, but for visitors new to Maghera’s highways and byways, it may seem a daunting challenge to navigate their way here.

But here’s the good news. Local support has remained strong and we want to say a great big thank you to all our loyal customers who have continued to support us through this difficult time. However, our biggest challenge lies ahead.

The main Ballyloughlin to Dundrum route is closed from 19 March right through until mid June.  This marks the start of our spring/summer trade, traditionally one of our busiest times of the year.  We’re expecting to feel the pinch in terms of visitor traffic, but with your help it mightn’t be too bad.  The alternative route adds only a mile or so to the journey here, and sure isn’t it worth the effort. So spread the word that we’re open for business and we look forward to greeting all and sundry.
